The band Who Knew began life four years ago in a cold garage somewhere in Iceland. In the Spring of 2010 they released their first record “Bits and pieces of a major spectacle”, and right from the very outset you can hear that Reykjavik was exactly the right place for this band to develop their sound. Surrounded by all things retro and piles of cigarette butts, the band has defined their sound with layer upon layer of bright guitar sounds, interleaved with synth melodies and topped off with multi-voiced falsetto vocals. The rich, luxuriant production owes more than a nod to Phil Spector and his wall of sound. On stage frontman Armann has been comnpared to David Byrne having a panic attack, whilst the band bounce around him something akin perhaps to an early incarnation of The Libertines. Who Knew don’t try and evoke Iceland’s ethereal cool in their music, but rather focus on the pure excitement of playing it.
