It isn’t every heavy rock band that can expect to chart in the top 40 and have a double page spread in the nation’s biggest newspaper with their debut record. But that’s exactly what the release of Sahg’s debut achieved. With their gloomy chords, heavy rhythms and a trace of the heavy rock pioneers of the 70s’ legacy, this Bergen quartet have amazed critics and punters alike. “Sahg I” (2006) filled a gap in the Norwegian metal spectrum and was an undisputed success at home as well as abroad. The record was awarded 10/10 Hard Rock Magazine (Germany) and 8/10 in Metal Hammer (UK). On the back of their successful debut release the band went on tour in the US with extreme metal pioneers Celtic Frost and played a host of metal festivals. Two years later came “Sahg II” which was seen by many to be a further refinement of what they started with their debut. In the aftermath of “II” the band toured heavily visiting Wacken, Inferno and Metalcamp amongst others. Fast forward to 2010 and the band have finally found a permanent drummer after having used session musicians for the past few years. With their new member in place a reinvigorated Sahg recorded their new record. “Sahg III” is the sound of a band that have taken a couple of smart steps towards perfecting something that was already extremely good. This is without a shadow of a doubt the most immediate and dynamic record the band have done to date.
