Elin Kåven is a Sami (Laplander) artist and dancer from Karasjok who now resides in Oslo. In december 2009 Elin released her first L.P. ’Jiknon musihkka – Frozen Music" with producer Ole Jørn Myklebust manning the desk. The record was critically acclaimed, with 5/6 across the board from a host of Norwegian and Sami media outlets including NRK Sami Radio, Østlendingen, Romerikets blad, Telemarksavisa and hot Norwegian blog furoreiharare.com. Together with her band Elin Kåven plays laid back mystical tunes, heavily influenced by traditional Sami joiks (Sami folk music). Genre wise the music spans from new folk and pop, to world and jazz. Intimate, hushed vocals delivered over the top of both intricate and atmospheric arrangements make for a languid, flowing sound. Elin’s backing band consists of Ole Jørn Myklebust (Mari Boine, Unni Wilhelmsen), Juhani Silvola (Ádjagas, Sacred Harp), and Jonas Howden Sjøvaag (Hanne Hukkelberg, Navyelectre, Eple Trio). And as a dancer, this is of course integrated into the live show and gives the music a new dimension.
