Obliteration are Norway’s most widely tipped metal act. Their debut “Perpetual Decay” came out on Darkthone’s label Tyrant Syndicate (a Peaceville imprint) and the band have recently put out their critically acclaimed follow up “Nekropsalms” on the dynamic Fysisk Format label. The record, with a hint of doom and punk influences, is wonderfully raw almost primitive in fact and demonstrates great understanding of extreme metal history. In other words it is a most brutal assault on the auditory senses, but in the best possible way. The band have gleaned inspiration from a variety of death metal bands, but also from the wider metal scene, bands like Voivod, Slayer and Napalm Death alongside Norwegian names like Cadaver, Aura Noir and of course Darkthrone. The international metal press are now beginning to take notice and the band have already toured in UK and the US. This past summer the band made a splash at Øya festival, and on the back of that got a host of overseas festival / show offers.
