What do you get when you toss six 17 year olds from Kristiansand, brimming with testosterone into a cement mixer along with a cello, hammond organ, bass, two guitars, a drum kit and young fresh faced anarchism? The answer is Honningbarna! Rock hard like concrete and sweet like candy, with nothing but contempt for the establishment, snarling lyrics and riffs that really kick interspersed by cello and organ licks, Honningbarna grab you by the throat and don’t let you go until you’ve had a proper lesson in Southern Norwegian punk rock! When Honningbarna won one of Hove festival’s battle of the bands spots this past summer, NRK P3’s head of music Mats Borch Bugge tweeted “Honningbarna for president.” They’ve had plenty of attention from NRK Urørt since and have been pick of the week (Ukas Urørt) for their track “Borgerskapets Utakknemlige Sønner.” Summer 2010 featured shows at key some festivals including Hove, Øya and Norwegian Wood. And it was at the latter that they delivered one of the best shows the Underwood stage has ever seen. Increasingly they’re being hailed by everyone from the kids to old punkers as Norwegian rock’s next big thing and the feedback from the shows is overwhelming. Their debut EP is out as of 11 October 2010.
